The brand new £40 million David Ross Sports Village is now open, offering an inspirational and accessible sports provision for all. The sports village has been supported by a significant commitment from Nottingham alumnus and Carphone Warehouse founder - David Ross, taking his total support for the University beyond £10 million.

Huddersfield, UK - (25th November 2016) - Continental Sports is delighted to have recently completed work on its largest ever single sports hall project for Nottingham University at the new David Ross Sports Village (“DRSV”).

Continental’s design and operations teams worked closely with David Morley Architects, the University Sports Faculty, Kier Construction and others to ensure the success of this project.

The main sports hall at DRSV contains 20 badminton courts, measuring some 3,800m2 (c.88m x 44m) and allows for a wide range of sports at all levels up to International level. An enormous amount of work was undertaken at the planning stages to co-ordinate and deal with the inevitable conflicts and necessary compromises between such a wide range of sports’ requirements.

As well as the main sports hall, Continental fitted out a new Dojo with judo and karate flooring, two studios with mirrors and ballet barre, the archery and fencing room with archery netting, the indoor sprint track with impact wall padding and the changing rooms with bench seating.

The project represented a number of “records” for Continental - including the largest number of sockets for sports equipment in one hall at 207, the largest single span double layered acoustic curtain in a sports hall, the most court lines marked in a sports hall - as well as the longest and most complicated installation we have ever undertaken!

Continental worked closely with our partner Schelde Sports to deliver a range of sports equipment suitable for high level play across the range of sports to be offered by the University.

The equipment supplied by Continental included:

Infrastructure items

The largest single span electrically operated vertically retracting central acoustic divider curtain in a sports hall

Demountable rebound screens to separate each bay of 5 badminton courts

Full height opaque visual separation curtains to enable back-to-back badminton to be played

Traditional pull out canvas and mesh divider curtains to divide each bay of 5 badminton courts into smaller areas

A 175m long high level trackway for a graduation ceremony curtain

Eight electronic multi-sports scoreboards with shot clocks for basketball

Line marking of 62 separate courts and seal of the sports hall timber floor

Archery protection netting to the archery salle

Line marking of 14 fencing pistes to the fencing room

Padded impact wall with digital printing at the end of the indoor sprint track

This project is the latest of a number of University sports project that Continental have been appointed to but is by far the largest and most complicated we have helped deliver in over 50 years. The tremendous result raises the bar for University sports facilities.”
